hyppoe
Hyppoe is an app designed to help people buy products at events without having to worry about lines, miscommunication, payment failures or transmission of viruses. As part of its launch campaign, a short video was produced to highlight a possible use case of the app, featuring a hero character called Dyscoe the Hippo.
From a storytelling perspective, the biggest challenge was explaining the benefits of the app in as little time as possible, while keeping the attention on the Dyscoe character and his experience. This meant that animation wise, it was essential for everyone to look alive and in constant motion, as well as for the piece to flow seamlessly from one scene to the next one, never letting go of the spectators attention.
As part of the creative process, I was also in charge of developing the look and feel for the spot and all the character that would feature in it. After trying out different ideas, we settled for a monochrome lineart look, that would reinforce the blue hue of the Hyppoe brand while allowing the characters to be playful and different from one another.
This meant sketching various versions of Dyscoe and his friends.
